How to Install a Banjo Brake Fitting

A banjo brake fitting is used to connect rubber brake lines to brake calipers on some vehicles. A banjo bolt is a machined bolt that allows brake fluid to travel from the rubber hose through the center of the bolt and into the brake caliper.

Things You'll Need

  • Wire brush
  • Banjo bolt
  • 2 copper washers
  • Wrench set
  • Clean the banjo mounting area on the brake caliper with a wire brush. Clean both sides of the banjo fitting at the end of the rubber brake hose with the wire brush.

  • Install the copper washer over the banjo bolt. Ensure the washer fits perfectly to the head of the banjo bolt. Slide the banjo bolt through the banjo fitting at the end of the rubber brake line.

  • Install the remaining copper washer over the banjo bolt and hold it securely to that side of the banjo fitting.

  • Thread the banjo bolt into the caliper, ensure the copper washer fits perfectly between the caliper and the banjo fitting. Tighten the banjo bolt with the wrench set.
