A brake-controller is necessary if you will be using electronic or trailer brakes on your GMC Suburban. Electronic/trailer brakes are mandatory by law if you will be towing an item that weighs more than two-thousand pounds. Installing the brake-controller is actually exceedingly simple as the GMC Suburban already has a designated controller harness located underneath the right side of the dashboard. Installing the controller on your GMC Suburban should not take any more than ten minutes.
Engage the Suburban's parking brake and turn off the engine.
Lift off the cover from the power center box underneath the dashboard. Locate the connection labeled "TRAILER."
Plug the controller's wiring harness into the "TRAILER" connection. Use an adapter if necessary.
Mount the controller onto the dash or below the steering wheel with the accompanied mounting equipment. Most controllers come with two to three screws that you can use to secure the controller to a spot underneath the Suburban's steering wheel.
