How Do I Replace a Motor Mount on a 2000 Audi A4?

A motor mount secures the engine of your 2000 Audi A4 to the frame of the car. Motor mounts are very sturdy and generally made of heat-tempered metal and an outer layer of rubber. The metal ensures a firm connection between the engine and the frame; the rubber serves as padding to reduce vibration. If you notice excess vibration in your Audi, it's probably time to replace the motor mount.

Things You'll Need

  • Car jack
  • Jack stand
  • Socket set
  • Open the hood of your Audi A4 and disconnect the negative terminal of your battery by loosening the terminal nut with a wrench and pulling the cable off the battery post.

  • Remove the air box by unfastening the retaining nut on top. The air box is black plastic and has a plastic tube that extends from one side and connects to the top of the engine.

  • Remove the heat shield, located under the turbo, by unfastening the retaining nut.

  • Jack up the car and place jack stands under the frame of the car near the wheels for added support and safety.

  • Move below the engine of your vehicle and remove the four bolts holding the sway bar in place. The sway bar is metal and connects the front two wheels.

  • Place a jack under your engine to support it once you've disconnected the mount.

  • Remove the nut on the lower side of the engine mount.

  • Remove the mount bracket from the frame by removing the three bolts securing it.

  • Remove the mount. You'll notice some wires wrapped around the mount; simply move them out of the way.

  • Remove the washer from the old mount and place it onto the new mount.

  • Position the new mount in place of the old one that you just removed.

  • Secure the new mount with the three bolts that you removed earlier. Repeat the above steps in reverse order to reassemble your Audi A4.
