Installation Instructions for Back Glass on a 2003 Dodge Ram

The 2003 Dodge pickup truck came with a solid rear window or a sliding glass rear window, depending on the options selected at purchase. Even though you might have selected a solid glass window, when replacing the window you can install a sliding glass window if you choose. You can also install a solid glass window even if you had a sliding glass window.

Things You'll Need

  • Box cutter
  • Assistant
  • Nylon woven rope
  • Cut around the perimeter of the black plastic gasket on the inside of the window and on the outside of the window with a sharp box cutter.

  • Position yourself inside the cab and have a second person stand in the truck bed. Carefully push the glass out of the truck. Have the second person place the old glass to the side. Be careful. The edges of the glass can cut you.

  • Pull the old rubber seal off the metal framing on the back of the truck cabin and discard it.

  • Tuck a long piece of woven rope in between the front and back rubber seal on the new window. Make sure you go all the way around the seal and leave approximately 1 foot on each end of the rope sticking out so you can pull on it. Tuck the rope as deep into the seal as possible.

  • Position the new glass against the cabin. Place the bottom edge of the seal on the metal lip in the window frame. Also, position the rope so it hangs inside the cabin at the top of the window.

  • Slowly pull the rope out of the seal. As you pull the rope out of the seal, the seal pulls over the metal lip in the cabin. As you work your way around the entire window, the seal secures itself to the metal lip and holds the window in place.
