How to Adjust TV Cable for an S-10

In 1982, the Chevrolet division of General Motors began production on the first generation S-10 truck. The 1994 model year saw radical interior and exterior design changes, which marked the beginning of the second generation S-10. In 2004, Chevrolet ceased production of the S-10, in favor for the all-new Colorado. Throughout the S-10s production lifespan, both manual and automatic transmission options were available to prospective buyers. The throttle valve cable for your vehicle’s automatic transmission plays an important role with regard to proper shifting behavior.

  • Turn off the vehicle’s engine, place the transmission in the “Park” position and apply the parking brake.

  • Open the vehicle's hood. (Allow the engine to cool, if applicable.)

  • Examine the top side of the engine near the driver’s side and locate the mounting bracket for the throttle valve cable. The throttle valve cable connects to the throttle arm of the carburetor or throttle body. (See Resources.)

  • Press and hold the “D” shaped release button mounted near the TV cable bracket. While holding the release button, slide the small cone-shaped slider towards the bracket, completely.

  • Release the “D” shaped TV cable adjustment tab. Rotate the engine’s throttle arm to the wide-open throttle position, or press the vehicle’s accelerator pedal down to the floor to complete the adjustment process.
