There are many reasons why your 1995 Ford F150 might not have power. You can troubleshoot your Ford truck and possibly find that all you need is a simple repair. You will need some mechanic tools and about an hour to troubleshoot your Ford F150.
Go to the gas station and fill up your tank. Add fuel injector cleaner to the tank by just pouring it into the gas tank. You can find the fuel injector cleaner at your local auto parts store. Drive the vehicle until the tank is almost empty. Refill the gas tank and notice if you have more power. Dirty fuel injectors can cause a loss of power.
Lift up the hood on your F150 and locate the Number One spark plug and wire. It is located at the front of the engine on the passenger side. Study your timing light and see how it operates. You have a red and a black squeeze connector as well as a spark plug wire connector. Attach the red connector to the positive side of the battery and connect the black connector to the negative side of the battery. Connect the spark plug connector to the number one spark plug wire. The wire will just lie through the connector and remain attached to the distributor and the spark plug.
Start the vehicle. Pull the trigger on the timing light and point the flashing light down to the harmonic balancer and locate the timing marks. The harmonic balancer is at the front of the motor on the bottom and it spins as the engine is running. You will be able to see if the timing is off or not.
Set the timing set at ten degrees before top dead center. You will see this mark on the timing tab. When the test light flashes, you will be able to see where the line on the harmonic balancer sets. If the timing is off, then adjust by turning the distributor left or right. You will need to loosen the nut that holds the distributor down by turning the nut to the left. The distributor is located at the top of the engine. It is the part that all the spark plug wires attach to. If your F150 is not timed correctly, you will lose power.
Turn off the vehicle and let it cool down completely. Remove the Number One spark plug wire from the spark plug by pulling it off. Remove the spark plug from the cylinder head by attaching the spark plug socket set and sliding it over the spark plug. You will turn the socket counterclockwise to remove it. Examine the spark plug to see if it is dirty or fouled. Repeat this process for all the spark plugs. If you have dirty or fouled plugs it will cause you to lose power.
