How Do I Add Transmission Fluid in a Daewoo

Daewoo Motors was established in 1972 by GM and Shinjin Motor. They are popular for making reworked GM models, with a few original designs as well. It is important to know how to keep up with your Daewoo's maintenance, including adding transmission fluid.

Locate Cap

  • The cap will be located on the back right hand side of the engine. It will be either labeled "transmission" or it will be a red dipstick. If you do not see either of these, then you have a sealed "transmission" and will need to take the vehicle to a mechanic.

Heat Fluid

  • To get accurate readings, it's best to idle the engine for about 15 to 20 minutes. You also can do this just after driving for at least 10 minutes, as long as the engine is warm. You want an accurate reading so you don't end up adding too much fluid to the transmission.

Add Fluid

  • After shutting the car off, take the transmission fluid dipstick out to measure the fluid level. There will be an indicator on the dipstick that says "Hot Max." Your fluid should be at or below that line. If your fluid is below the line that says "Hot Min," then add fluid little by little into the hole and recheck each time until you've reached that line.
