How to Install a Dashboard in a Dodge Ram

If the dashboard breaks in your Dodge Ram, you can install a new one with common tools in your garage or driveway. The dashboard is secured with several screws. Once the screws have been removed, the dashboard can be pulled off with little effort. Replacement dashboards can be purchased through your nearby Dodge dealership or online auto parts vendors.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Phillips screwdriver

Removal

  • Open the hood and use a socket wrench to detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery; this is to prevent the airbag from deploying as you remove the dashboard.

  • Remove the eight screws that secure the dashboard with a Phillips screwdriver. Four of the screws are on the top part of the dashboard, two screws are on the right-side panel and two screws are on the left-side panel.

  • Pull the dashboard out of the Ram. If your Dodge Ram has plastic locking tabs, squeeze them to disengage them from the dashboard. Once all the tabs have been disengaged, you can pull the dashboard off the vehicle.

Installation

  • Place the new dashboard into the vehicle. If your Ram has the locking tabs, make sure they click into place as you install the dashboard. Be gentle as you engage the tabs; the dashboard can crack easily if you apply too much pressure.

  • Reinstall the eight screws to secure the dashboard.

  • Reconnect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery and close the hood.
