How to Put an Air Conditioning Belt on a Hyundai Accent

The air conditioning compressor mounted on the front of the engine on a Hyundai Accent is driven by a belt that is turned by the crankshaft pulley. This belt can get brittle and fray over time, and if it breaks, you will lose the use of the air conditioning. To avoid this from happening, if you notice any wear in the air conditioning belt, then you need to replace the belt, which takes just under an hour.

Things You'll Need

  • Jack
  • Jack stands
  • 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set
  • Open-end wrench set
  • Replacement air conditioning belt
  • Lift the front of the Accent with the jack and put jack stands under the chassis.Unbolt the engine splash shield from the underside of the car with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket.

  • Loosen the mounting bolts on the air conditioning compressor, which is in the lower left corner of the engine, using an open-end wrench and the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Push the air conditioning compressor towards the middle of the engine and pull the belt off of the air conditioning compressor pulley and the crankshaft.

  • Install the replacement belt onto the air conditioning pulley and the crankshaft pulley by hand. Push the air conditioning compressor away from the center of the engine with your hands. Tighten down the bolts on the compressor with an open-end wrench and the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket.

  • Reinstall the engine splash shield with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Lower the Accent off the jack stands using the jack.
