How do I Remove the Front Hub on a Dodge 3500?

You have two front hubs on your Dodge 3500: one on each side of the vehicle. The front hub holds the front brake rotor onto the brake spindle and allows the rotor to spin on the single freely. If the bearings inside the hub assembly wear out, the rotor will not spin freely on the hub. The result could be damaged wheel spindles.

Things You'll Need

  • Lug nut wrench
  • Jack
  • Jack stand
  • Socket set
  • Wire tie
  • Screwdriver
  • Shop rag
  • Hammer
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheel that bolts to the hub you want to remove. Use the lug nut wrench supplied with the Dodge 3500. Place a jack under the frame behind the wheel and jack up the vehicle. Place a jack stand under the Dodge's frame and secure the Dodge on the jack stand. Remove the lug nuts and pull the wheel off the rotor.

  • Remove the bolts that hold the caliper onto the spindle with a socket set. Suspend the caliper from the coil spring with a wire tie.

  • Pry the cover off the center of the wheel rotor with a screwdriver and clean the wheel bearing grease out of the hub with a shop rag.

  • Remove the spindle nut located inside the rotor with your socket set.

  • Pull the rotor off the spindle. The front race and bearing set will come off with the rotor.

  • Flip the rotor over, place a screwdriver against the bearing inside the front of the rotor and pound the bearing and race out with the screwdriver and hammer.

  • Slide the rear bearing and race off the spindle. If the bearing and race stuck inside the rotor, repeat step six with the rear bearing and race.
