The Kia spectra has a fuel tank air filter that filters the air into the vent hose and is attached to the filler neck to keep it from rattling. Changing the fuel tank air filter is a straightforward job that can be done in about a half hour. But if you don't know where to look, the filter can be hard to find. Remove the rear left splash shield to get to the filter.
Take off the screws that hold the rear left splash shield in place inside the rear fender. Take out the splash shield. You should be able to see the filler neck and the filter that is attached to it.
Use needle-nose pliers to cut the strip tie that holds the filter to the filler neck. Disconnect the electrical connector by pressing in on the tabs and pulling the connector off.
Remove the hose clamp that holds the filter to the vent hose. Pull the filter away from the vent hose and discard it. Place the new filter on the vent hose and slide the hose clamp in place over the filter. Tighten the hose clamp until the filter is secure.
Connect the electrical connector by snapping it in place. Lightly pull on the connector to make sure it has been seated properly and will not come off. Attach the filter to the filler neck with the strip tie and tighten the tie until the filter is secure.
Replace the rear left splash shield and tighten the screws so that it is held tightly and will not move.
