How to Reset a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Resetting a Chevy Malibu is something you sometimes need to do after disconnecting your battery. On occasion, this action results in the deprogramming of your vehicle's operating system, which includes your keyless entry remote, alarm and ignition. To reset these systems and get your vehicle working properly again you'll need to reset, or reprogram, the remotes for your car, which in turn reset the alarm and ignition switch in your Malibu. The process that programs key remotes for your Malibu resets the system in your car, allowing the keys to work with the rest of the vehicle.

  • Place your key in the Malibu's ignition.

  • Turn the ignition on for five seconds and then turn it off.

  • Take your key out of the ignition and place a second key in the ignition within five seconds of removing the first key. Turn the car on for five seconds before turning it off.

  • Test your keys by unlocking or locking your doors or pushing the panic buttons.
