How to Repair a Dodge Ram Transfer Case

Dodge Ram transfer cases attach to the bolts on the rear portion of the transmission. Vehicle owners who want a four-wheel drive that works well must take good care of their transfer case. According to Dodge, all of their transfer cases are nearly identical in appearance. If you want to repair your transfer case, you can access it through its down pipe.

Things You'll Need

  • 24 mm socket
  • Take off the down pipe. This enables you to see the transfer case, which contains a line with a white color. Take out the case to see it more clearly.

  • Use a socket of the 24 mm (millimeter) variety to drain the transfer case of any fluid that remains.

  • Unscrew the bolts that secure your vehicle's driveshaft as well as both ball bearings. Then remove the driveshaft.

  • Insert sealant on the lower plug to fix the leak. Allow it to air dry then pour fluid in it once more. Verify that no fluid comes out to determine that there is no longer a leak.
