How to Install Weatherstripping on Vent Windows in a Chevy Truck

You can install weatherstripping on the vent windows of your Chevy truck using a few supplies from any auto parts store. Weatherstripping forms a tight seal between your window and door to keep out wind, rain, moisture and snow. Window vents are one area where the elements can sometimes enter the interior if they are not properly sealed. Weatherstripping eventually wears out over time, becoming cracked and brittle.

Things You'll Need

  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Utility knife
  • Weatherstripping kit with glue
  • Roll down all the windows and decide how many windows need new weatherstripping. Any place where the weatherstripping is cracked or brittle needs replacement.

  • Cut out the old weatherstripping with a utility knife and pull it out of the channels with needle-nose pliers.

  • Scrape any old glue still stuck to the door frame with the razor blade.

  • Apply a small bead of glue and spread it onto the door frame and the weatherstripping. Let dry to tacky. Slide the new weatherstripping into the door frame using the needle-nose pliers. Press the two surfaces together. Repeat for the other side of the door frame.

  • Follow Steps 2 to 4 for the other windows that need weatherstripping.

  • Allow the weatherstripping to dry for 30 minutes. Slowly roll the windows up and let them stay up for at least 24 hours before rolling them down again.
