How to Remove the Daytime Running Lights in a 2009 Lancer

Daytime running lights are a safety feature incorporated into cars and trucks over 10 years ago. The system includes standard light bulbs tied into a system that turns them on automatically as soon as the vehicle is started. However, a light that runs automatically and potentially more often than the driver would like will burn out and need to be replaced more frequently than one that can be controlled on command. Turning off the daytime running lights on a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer is a simple process and will extend the bulbs' lifetime.

  • Ensure the Lancer's engine is off and remove the key for safety.

  • Release the hood latch from the inside of the Lancer by locating the release below the steering wheel.

  • Move to the front of the Lancer and find the latch under the hood. Place both hands in the gap under the hood towards the center and feel for the latch. Pull it to release the hood and use the prop rod to hold the hood up.

  • Locate the fuse box under the hood. It is the large black box on the driver's side of the vehicle. Unclasp the top of the fuse box and remove the top.

  • Remove fuse 13. It will be a red 10A (10 amp) fuse at the end of the bottom row.
