How do I Fix Daytime Running Lights on a 2002 VW Passat Wagon?

If the daytime running lights on your 2002 Volkswagen Passat Wagon stop functioning properly, they should be fixed immediately. The most likely issues with the daytime running lights on your Passat Wagon are either loose connections, burnt-out bulbs or damaged fuses. Thankfully all three problems have very simple solutions that only take a few minutes to perform.

Things You'll Need

  • Clean cloth
  • Replacement 194 bulb
  • Replacement 15A fuse
  • Remove the keys from the ignition, and open the hood.

  • Remove the plastic cover at the rear of the headlight assembly. Lightly tug on the electrical connector at the rear of the headlight assembly. If it comes out or is loose, secure it to the assembly. Test the daytime running lights.

  • Remove the daytime running light socket from the headlight assembly. The DRL socket is the smallest socket on the headlight assembly. Rotate it counterclockwise to loosen it, and pull it out to remove it from the assembly.

  • Pull the old bulb out of the socket, and use a clean cloth to install the replacement bulb. Place the bulb back into the socket, and place the socket back into the assembly. Rotate it clockwise to secure it. Reattach the plastic cover, and test the headlights.

  • Remove the cover from the fuse box, and locate the fuses labeled "R HEAD LMP" and "L HEAD LMP." If either fuse is broken, remove them from the fuse box, and install a replacement 15A fuse. Place the cover back onto the fuse box, and close the hood.
