The 2005 Chevy Impala uses a fan blower to heat and cool the passenger cabin. The blower consists of a small motor and a plastic fan wheel that pushes air throughout the climate control system. The blower motor may not work properly if either the plastic fan wheel has become damaged due to cracks in the wheel or if the motor fails. Replacing the blower motor, a fairly easy job for the novice mechanic, requires only a screwdriver.
Remove the lower right dash insulator panel. Pull the retainers out with your fingers, and lower the panel. Twist the courtesy lamp counterclockwise to remove it from the insulator panel.
Disconnect the electrical harness from the blower motor. Remove the three retaining screws from the blower assembly with a screwdriver. Pull the blower motor down to remove it from the housing.
Install the new blower motor by pushing it up into the housing. Attach the blower motor with the three screws, and tighten them securely with a screwdriver. Connect the electrical harness to the blower motor.
Attach the courtesy lamp to the dash lower insulator panel by twisting it clockwise. Install the insulator panel, and push in the retaining clips to secure the panel. Start the vehicle, and turn on the fan blower to ensure it works properly.
