The Brights Headlights Won't Come On in a Ford Ranger

If the high beam headlights on your Ford Ranger are not turning on, the fuse controlling the circuit most likely blew out. The fuse box in the engine compartment of the Ford Ranger houses fuses to many electrical systems, and specifically to the high and low beam headlights. Because these headlights have separate fuses, it's possible for the low beams to work while the high beams do not. Fortunately, replacing a blown fuse is a simple and straightforward procedure.

Things You'll Need

  • Replacement fuse
  • Turn off your Ford Ranger if it was on and prop open your hood.

  • Locate the fuse box on the left side of the engine compartment. Open the fuse box and inspect the fuse diagram on the inside of the fuse box cover.

  • Pull the fuses that control the high beam circuits out of their socket and verify they are blown.

  • Replace the blown fuses with new fuses by sliding the fuse into the socket until you cannot slide it in any further. Turn on the high beam headlights to test that they now work.
