How to Replace a Xenon Headlight in a Saab 95

Replacing the headlights on a Saab 9-5 is a simple, but necessary, procedure. Without functional headlights, you experience diminished road vision and oncoming drivers may not be able to see your vehicle. Not only that, but many state troopers can issue "fix it" tickets for driving with malfunctioning headlights. Saab vehicles use P 43t-38 Xenon bulbs which can be purchased at most automotive parts stores.

Things You'll Need

  • Replacement P 43t-38 bulb
  • Turn off the Saab's engine and open the hood.

  • Unscrew the cover from the back of the head light units. The head light units are located under the hood, directly behind the head lights. The cover is situated on the back side of the head light units and can be unscrewed by hand. Unplug the connectors from the light units by squeezing the tabs on the connectors and pulling them away from the units.

  • Unhook the spring clip by pushing it forward and to the side. The spring clip is located directly behind the bulbs, inside the headlamp assembly. Remove the bulb. Place the new bulb into the unit by aligning it with the three slots in the light unit.

  • Secure the light with the spring clip. Replug the connector to the light unit and screw the cover back on. Close the hood.
