The tire jack in a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado is provided to lift the pickup in order to remove the wheel and tire in the event of a blowout or for any other reason you might need to lift the car, including tire repair as well as many maintenance tasks. The supplied Silverado jack is not designed for regular use, so use it only in roadside situations. If you raise your Silverado often, invest in a floor jack. The supplied Silverado tire jack comes with a lug nut wrench for removing the lug nuts from the wheel. This jack and wrench combination is stowed behind the rear seat of the truck in a small foam package.
Shut down the engine and shift the truck's transmission into "park," or in first gear if your 2002 Silverado has a manual transmission. Apply the parking brake and turn on the interior dome light.
Reach behind the driver's seat and grab the bottom of the back seat.
Lift the seat upward to access the storage area, exposing the jack and wrench combination. If your Silverado doesn't have a back seat, exit the vehicle and fold down the backrest to expose the storage area and the jack-and-wrench combination.
