How do I Fix the Death Wobble on a Ford F-250?

The "death wobble" on a Ford F-250 is a harmonic vibration in the front suspension that occurs from going over bumps at higher speeds. Ford engineers equipped the F-250 with a front steering stabilizer to cancel this vibration when it begins. However, due to the position of the stabilizer, it's susceptible to impact from road debris, speed bumps and other objects that can damage it, rendering the stabilizer ineffective. Anyone with basic auto-repair skill can fix the death wobble in under 30 minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket set
  • New steering stabilizer
  • Knife
  • Unbolt the old steering stabilizer from the sway bar and tie rod mounts using your socket set.

  • Remove the old steering stabilizer from the mounts by hand.

  • Insert the new steering stabilizer by hand into the first mount. Cut the retaining band off the stabilizer with the knife. Bolt it to the second mount once it expands far enough using the socket set.
