How to Replace Fuses in a 2002 Saturn

The 2002 Saturns come with either automatic or manual transmission and get between 21 and 25 miles per gallon. Saturns are available as four-door sedans or wagons and have either four or six cylinders. Many have sunroofs, power windows and keyless entry, special features that will stop working if the fuse supplying electricity to them breaks. If a simple electrical component stops working on your Saturn, test the fuses and replace any bad ones.

Things You'll Need

  • Fuse tester
  • Fuse puller
  • Use a fuse tester to find which fuses are broken in the fuse panel, located in the dash either on the driver's or passenger's side, depending on the specific Saturn you own. Connect the ground wire to a safe ground like a metal bolt or a metal plate with no electrical current.

  • Turn the ignition key "On," so the dash panel lights up but the engine doesn't crank. Touch both ends of each fuse with the fuse tester. If the bulb on the end of the tester lights up on one end of a fuse but not the other, the fuse is broken.

  • Grip the broken fuse with a fuse puller and pull it out of the panel. Fuse pullers are often included in the fuse panel on new vehicles, but if your fuse puller is no longer there you can purchase one at any automotive-parts store or use a pair of needle-nose pliers.

  • Replace the fuse with a new fuse with the right strength for the role it's fulfilling. Look on the diagram on the inside of the fuse panel cover to see how strong the fuse needs to be. A fuse's amperage is stamped on the top of it, as in 10, 15 or 20.
