How to Replace a Throttle Position Switch on a Ford 302 Bronco

The Bronco was Ford's only sport-utility vehicle when the vehicle made its debut in 1966. Over the next three decades, the Bronco evolved in both appearance and engine design. By the late 1980s, the Bronco had abandoned its carbureted fuel system in favor of fuel injection. The fuel injection system used by the 302 engine included a throttle position switch that monitors the position of the throttle body. A defective switch is commonly associated with poor acceleration and an uneven idle.

  • Screwdriver
  • Open the hood and locate the throttle position switch on the front of the intake manifold, mounted to the passenger's side of the throttle body.

  • Position the new switch onto the throttle body.

  • Press the wiring connection onto the switch until the plug is secure.
