How to Check the Fuel Pressure on a 1995 Camry

The fuel injection system on a 1995 Toyota Camry is managed by the powertrain control module, or PCM. The PCM collects data from various sensors throughout the vehicle and uses this information to regulate and maintain the fuel pressure. The normal fuel pressure range for a 1995 Toyota Camry is between 55 and 62 psi. When the fuel pressure falls outside of these parameters, a number of driveability problems can occur such as poor performance, engine stalling and rough idle.

Things You'll Need

  • Fuel pressure gauge
  • Move the gear selector into the park position. Apply the emergency brake and turn off the engine.

  • Open the hood and find the Schrader valve. It is located on the end of the fuel rail tube on top of the intake manifold.

  • Remove the Schrader valve cap and attach the fuel pressure gauge. Position the gauge so it is visible from inside the car.

  • Turn the ignition to the “ON” position but do not start the vehicle. The fuel pump will energize for a 2- to 3-second period.

  • Note the reading on the fuel pressure gauge. Cycle the key between the “OFF” and “ON” position as necessary to obtain an accurate fuel pressure reading.
