How to Change the Fuel Filter on a 2000 Ford E250

A dirty or clogged fuel filter can cause rough performance and stalls. The fuel filter in the 2000 Ford E-250 should be replaced every 15,000 miles or when problems are suspected. Replacement is straightforward but will require a few special tools. These tools and replacement filters can be obtained from most auto-part shops.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Socket set, metric
  • Fuel pressure gauge
  • Approved gasoline container
  • Gasoline-safe drain pan
  • Fuel line disconnect tool
  • Disconnect the negative (black) battery cable by loosening the bolt on the clamp.

  • Open the fuel filler cap.

  • Remove the cap from the valve in the fuel supply manifold in the engine compartment.

  • Attach the fuel pressure gauge to the valve and place the end of the gauge's hose in the gas container. Hold down the button on the valve until the fuel stops flowing.

  • Remove the gauge and put the cap back on the valve.

  • Place a drain pan below the fuel filter and press the safety clips off the hoses on either side of the filter. The filter is inside the frame rail on the driver's side.

  • Push the fuel line disconnect tool into the female fitting on one side of the fuel filter and separate the fittings. Repeat on the other side. Make sure the fuel drains into the drain pan.

  • Snap the fuel filter out of the bracket. Snap the replacement filter in, with the arrow pointing towards the front of the van.

  • Push the fuel lines into the connectors. They will snap into place.

  • Reconnect the battery.
