How to Fix a Dented Truck Bumper

Trucks tend to work harder than other vehicles, and as a result of that work, they are more likely to suffer dents and dings. If you tow a trailer or boat with your truck you've probably had the unpleasant experience of hearing metal on metal at least once as you backed your truck up to attach your boat or trailer. Bumper dents are unsightly and are expensive to repair, unless you know how to fix them yourself.

Things You'll Need

  • Wet cloth
  • Dry cloth
  • Tape
  • Aluminum foil
  • Lighter
  • Container of compressed air
  • Wipe off the dent on your truck bumper with a clean wet cloth, and dry it off with a dry cloth. Tape a piece of aluminum foil over the dent on your truck bumper by putting one small piece of tape at the top of the piece of foil. The aluminum foil should not be folded and needs to cover the entire dented area.

  • Heat the dent on your truck bumper with a lighter for 30 seconds, moving the lighter back and forth over the piece of aluminum foil covering the dent.

  • Lift up the piece of aluminum foil and remove it from your truck bumper along with the piece of tape. Spray the dent on your truck bumper with a canister of compressed air held upside down for five seconds.

  • Wait for the dent to pop out of your truck bumper.

  • Use your wet cloth to wipe off your truck bumper, and your dry cloth to polish it.
