How to Remove a Window Regulator on a C3 Corvette

The C3 version of the Chevrolet Corvette was produced from 1968 and 1982. After decades of being on the road, many of these cars will have parts that need replacement. If you have a problem with your side window going up at a severe angle or the window dropping down inside the door, the roller assemblies are most likely broken. To completely rebuild the assembly, you will need front and rear glass run rollers, regulator rollers, glass bushings and washers, and two anti-rattle cushions.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Door handle removal tool
  • Open-end wrench set
  • Nut driver
  • Socket set
  • Lower the door glass all the way inside the door. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the screws on the outer edges that hold the door panel in place. Using the door handle removal tool, place it behind the door lock knob and press in to disengage the spring clip. Remove the door lock knob and door panel.

  • Locate the two anti-rattle cushions on the top of the door. Using an open-end wrench, remove the bolts and take out the cushions.

  • Locate the two screws on each end of the door weatherstrip molding. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the screws and carefully pull out the weatherstrip seal. There is a clip holding the center of the molding.

  • Locate the glass run channel stops near the front and the rear of the door. Using a nut driver, remove the bolts and channel stops through the access holes in the door.

  • Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the screws holding the window regulator access cover near the bottom center of the door and remove the cover.

  • Move the window to the up position to line up the lower channel retaining screws and the access holes in the doors. Have another person hold the glass while you reach inside the door and hold the glass channel nuts while you loosen the bolts. Carefully remove the window by pulling it upward, making sure to clear the rollers through the door opening.

  • Slide off the horizontal lower glass channel from the regulator arm rollers and remove the rear glass run channel. Adjust the regulator arms up and down to make this easier.

  • Remove the window regulator channel retaining bolts using an open-end wrench or socket. Position the regulator arms down and disconnect the regulator wiring if the car is equipped with power windows. Remove the regulator retaining bolts and remove the regulator through the access hole.
