How to Remove Brake Pads on a Montero

Removing the brake pads on your Montero will be necessary if you are doing a brake job. Brakes wear over time because of the continuous friction between the brake pads and the rotors. When you feel that your brakes aren't performing like they used to or if you are hearing an annoying and embarrassing screeching sound emanating from the brakes, replace them right away to ensure that your vehicle is safe to drive.

Things You'll Need

  • Jack
  • Jack stands
  • Ratchet
  • Sockets
  • Screwdriver
  • Hammer (optional)
  • Jack up the Montero and place it on jack stands.

  • Remove the wheel with a lug nut wrench.

  • Remove the brake caliper with a ratchet and set aside without allowing the caliper to hang freely.

  • Pry between the rotor and the brake pad with a screwdriver to release the pad from the caliper bracket.
