How to Replace a Turn Signal Flasher on a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado

The turn signal flasher on your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado is responsible for making your turn signals blink and making the audible clicking noise you hear when the turn signals are activated. Should the flash fail, the turn signals will no longer blink; also, the click noise will often become delayed and change noticeably in pitch and frequency if it sounds at all. The flashers are inexpensive and easily replaced. You can purchase one at most auto parts retailers and have it swapped out in less than 10 minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Flashlight
  • Replacement flasher
  • Use the flashlight to look underneath the driver-side dashboard and find the fuse panel.

  • Locate the old flasher on the back side of the fuse panel. The flasher looks like a small tin canister.

  • Pull the old flasher out of its socket by hand. This may require a little effort to get yourself in the right position to grab it properly.

  • Plug the new flasher into the flasher socket by lining up the prongs and pushing it gently, but forcefully, into the socket. Make sure it is fully seated.

  • Push the turn signal stalk to one direction or the other to verify the new flasher works.
