How to Disable Seat Belt Alarms in Ford Trucks

Most Ford trucks are equipped with a seat belt alarm or warning chime. This alarm produces a "dinging" noise when your vehicle is operating while the seat belts are unbuckled. Although Ford does not condone driving with your seat belt unhooked, this alarm can be disabled if you find it inconvenient. The process is the same for all Ford "F-Series" trucks (F150, F250 and F350) made between 1997 and 2003.

  • Close all the doors, set the parking brake, turn your headlight switch off, unbuckle your seat belt and turn the key to the "Off" position.

  • Turn your key to the "On" position and wait two minutes, until the seat belt warning light turns off.

  • Buckle and unbuckle the seat belt three times, ending with the belt unbuckled.

  • Turn on your headlight switch for three seconds, and then turn it off.

  • Buckle and unbuckle the seat belt three times again, ending with the belt unbuckled.

  • Wait for the seat belt warning light to turn on, then turn off. After it turns off, buckle and unbuckle the seat belt again to disable the seat belt alarm.
