How to Remove a Honda Pilot Tail Light

Your Honda Pilot will need a new tail light if one has burned out. Tail lights can burn out for a number of reasons, but the most common by far is regular use. Eventually, the filament will break and the the light will fail. Replacement tail lights can be purchased from Honda or from most auto parts stores. To get the correct-sized tail light, you will need the part number stamped on the bottom of your old light.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Socket set
  • New tail light
  • New tail light housing (if needed)
  • Open the rear hatch of the Honda Pilot.

  • Remove the nuts on the back of the tail light assembly.

  • Pull the tail light forward.

  • Remove the electrical connector running to the back of the tail light.

  • Push in on the tail light and turn it counterclockwise to remove the light from the housing. If you are replacing the housing, pull the housing all the way out and slide in the new housing unit.

  • Install the new tail light. Installation is the reverse of removal.
