How to Use a Power Steering Pulley Removal Tool

When replacing the power steering pulley on your engine, it is almost impossible to do so without a power steering pulley remover. The reason is that the pulley is is pressed onto the pump at the factory and requires a tremendous amount of force to remove. You may need to replace the power steering pulley if it has been damaged or if you are looking to replace it with a chrome pulley to dress up the engine for a car show.

Things You'll Need

  • Ratchet
  • Sockets
  • Remove the power steering pulley nut with a ratchet.

  • Remove the power steering belt by loosening the tensioner with a ratchet. Then, loosen the lock bolt with a ratchet as well and pull up on the power steering belt and remove from the pulley.

  • Position the power steering pulley remover jaws around the power steering pulley and the bolt at the center of the pulley.

  • Tighten the power steering pulley remover with a ratchet until the pulley pops off the power steering pump.

  • Loosen the power steering pulley remover with a ratchet and remove the pulley from it.
