How to Replace a Chrysler Window Motor

A stuck window repair at a shop could cost a few hundred dollars, while the replacement window motor for Chrysler cars is actually fairly inexpensive and easy to obtain. The repair requires no special mechanic skills other than knowledge of a few basic tools and a bit of "elbow grease," thanks to the quality American design and construction of Chrysler's vehicles. Nearly every model will have an identical system in place, despite the many varying exteriors and features available. In some cases, the problem may be merely electrical, and the window could be fixed with as little as a replacement fuse.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Ratchet
  • Check that the problem is not merely due to a blown fuse or other electrical fault. Open the fuse box located near the steering column and check for any signs of damaged or blown fuses. If this is the case, replace the fuse and see if the window will now operate. If this does not resolve the issue, the problem is most likely mechanical and will require that the motor be replaced.

  • Remove the inner panel of the door with the inoperable window. Loosen the screws located around the door panel and gently pull the door free of the door frame. Unclip the window switch and speaker wire harnesses from their attachment point on the door panel.

  • Disconnect the wire harness from the window motor.

  • Use a ratchet to remove the mounting bolts connecting the window motor to both the window regulator and the door frame. The broken window motor will now easily come free of the door.

  • Install the replacement motor to the same mounting points as the old motor and bolt it to the door frame and window regulator. Connect the wire harness to the new motor.

  • Reconnect the wiring harnesses to the window control switch and speaker in the door panel, and screw the panel securely to the door frame.
