How to Program the Keyless Remote of a GMC Jimmy

According to Edmunds.com, the Jimmy was a small sport utility vehicle manufactured by GMC between 1983 and 2002. Beginning in 1994, the Jimmy was manufactured with electronic door locks and a keyless remote entry system. Aftermarket keyless remotes for the GMC Jimmy can be purchased online at websites such as keyless-remotes.com at a lower cost than manufacturer-branded remotes sold at your local dealership. These aftermarket remotes need to be programmed in order to work with your vehicle.

  • Close all the doors of the vehicle and insert your car key into the ignition. Press and hold the power "unlock" button on the driver side door panel.

  • Turn the key in the ignition to the "on" position located immediately before the "start" position while still pressing the "unlock" button. Turn the key in the ignition to the "off" position, back to the "on" position then back to the "off" position, quickly in succession.

  • Release the power "unlock" button on the driver side door panel. The power door locks in the vehicle should now lock and unlock indicating the vehicle has entered remote transmitter programming mode.

  • Turn the key in the ignition to the "on" position to exit transmitter programming mode after you have finished programming all the keyless remotes. Test each remote several times by locking and unlocking the doors of the vehicle.
