How to Fix Wiper Blades Stuck in an Upright Position for an Audi

The wiper blades on an Audi perform an important safety task. By clearing away debris, snow, and rain, they allow you to see the road ahead of you. However, if any debris gets lodged in the pivot arm assembly, it can cause the wiper arm to be stuck in an upright position so that it won't move at all. When this happens, know how to fix the wiper blades so that they work normally once again.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Socket set
  • Pull the wiper arm assembly away from the windshield until the wiper arm hinge locks into a position perpendicular to the windshield.

  • Remove the retaining nut that holds the wiper arm assembly to the base of the windshield.

  • Pull the wiper arm assembly off the cowl.

  • Check the pivot assembly for any debris and clear away anything that might be lodged in the cowl with your fingers. The profile of many Audis is such that debris are easily lodged down behind the cowl or behind the pivot arm. This will cause the arm to not move as it should.

  • Turn on the wiper motor without the wiper arm assembly attached and cycle the wiper arm motor one time. Verify that the pivot assembly moves freely.

  • Put the wiper arm assembly back onto the pivot arm assembly. Installation is the reverse of removal.
