How to Remove the Water Pump From a 2002 Chevrolet Venture

The water pump keeps engine coolant (or water) pumping into the engine block to maintain ideal operating temperatures. A faulty water pump can cause your vehicle to run hot; causing damage to your engine. Unlike many other vehicles, the Chevrolet Venture has an easily accessible water pump.

Things You'll Need

  • Pliers
  • Drain Pan
  • Socket Wrench Set
  • Liquid Wrench (optional)
  • Loosen the negative battery cable with the pliers and disconnect it from the battery terminal.

  • Place the drain pan under the radiator and drain all of the coolant from the vehicle. Locate the drain plug underneath the radiator to begin.

  • Remove the drive belt guard from the engine bay by disconnecting the bolts. Remove the drive belt from the water pump pulley. Remove the bolts from the pulley to access the water pump.

  • Remove the mounting bolts from the water pump and remove the pump and gasket. Use a solvent such as liquid wrench if you have trouble with the bolts.
