How to Remove the Rear Bumper on a Dodge Ram

The Dodge Ram is a dependable, hard work truck designed to handle all the abuse you can throw at it. The bed of this truck often does a large portion of the work, hauling loads of various materials and handling the "grunt work." Because of the heavy and hard use of the truck bed, sometimes the rear bumper will become damaged and need to be replaced. Removing the rear bumper may seem complicated, but it is actually quite simple.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Helper
  • Crawl under the rear of the truck and locate the bumper-mounting bolts that hold the rear bumper to the truck body. There should be 4.

  • Use the socket wrench to remove the 4 mounting bolts and have your helper hold the bumper in place. Disconnect the license plate light's wiring harness from the back of the bumper.

  • Pull the bumper up and away from the truck body until it comes loose. Discard or sell the old bumper and mount a new one in its stead.
