How to Replace a Cabin Air Filter on a Land Rover LR3

A faulty cabin air filter can cause your Land Rover LR3 to experience several problems from no fresh air getting to the passenger cabin to the windows actually fogging up and hindering your ability to see the road. The Land Rover LR3 cabin air filter is made of cotton to prevent allergens and dust from getting into the cabin. Change the cabin air filter of your Land Rover about every 2 or 3 months to assure that the air you are breathing in your vehicle is as clean as possible.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Socket wrench set
  • Dust mask
  • Shop vac
  • Clean wet cloth
  • Open the hood of your Land Rover LR3 and locate the firewall behind the engine. Use a socket wrench and screwdriver to remove the cover plate on top of the firewall between the motor and the front windshield.

  • Locate the black case that is just below the firewall cover plate on the front passenger side of the vehicle. The case is about 3-by-12 inches across the top and about 8 inches deep. Open the case by using a screwdriver to slide under the cover and pop the tabs that hold the lid on the case.

  • Locate the air filter inside the case and lift it out of the container. Discard the old filter and use a shop vac or small hand-held vacuum to clean out the dust and debris inside the case. Finish cleaning the case by using a clean wet cloth to remove any remaining dust.

  • Place the new filter inside the case and close the lid, snapping the tabs back into place. Replace the cover plate over the top of the firewall and secure it with the screws.

  • Start the engine of the Land Rover LR3 and turn on the vent fan to get the air moving through the new filter. When you are satisfied with the work, shut the engine off and put your tools away.
