The Hyundai Sonata is a mid-sized sedan and is known for generous headroom, a big back seat and a huge trunk. Put the ignition in the off position and allow the engine to cool completely before servicing the vehicle. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the engine cover and remove the throttle body electrical connector. Loosen and remove the bolts that hold the throttle body.
Lift out the throttle body and its gasket. Discard the gasket. Clean the mating surfaces of the throttle body thoroughly to remove any gasket material or other dirt and debris.
Install the throttle body with a new gasket. Set the bolts in place on the throttle body and finger tighten them.
Torque the bolts to 21 foot pounds. Reattach the throttle body electrical connector. Replace the engine cover.
Reconnect the negative battery cable to the terminal. Start the engine and allow it to run for several minutes until it is warm. Check for optimal engine operation.
