The drain valve on your PT Cruiser’s radiator provides a quick and easy method for you to discharge the coolant. Whether you’re changing the thermostat or replacing the heater core, you'll need to drain the coolant from the PT Cruiser. With a few minor tools, you can locate and drain the radiator if needed, right at home. The time it takes to do this on your PT Cruiser should be no longer than 50 minutes.
Apply the emergency brake and raise the front-end of your PT Cruiser with a hydraulic jack. The bottom of both of the front tires should measure no more than 10 inches from the ground.
Set a jack stand down beneath the front frame, behind both of the tires. Raise the support arms on the jack stands to 95 percent of the height of the hydraulic jack. Lower your PT Cruiser slowly down onto the support arms.
Slide under the vehicle and position yourself beneath the radiator. If your PT Cruiser has a plastic protective splash guard covering the bottom of the radiator, remove its bolts with a socket wrench.
Locate your PT Cruiser’s radiator drain valve. On the far left-bottom corner of the radiator you should see a small, black circle with a short tube protruding from it. This is your Cruiser’s drain valve. Loosen the valve with a pair of pliers counterclockwise to drain the coolant.
