Pontiac Sunfire Radiator Fan Removal

The engine compartment in a Pontiac Sunfire is fairly cramped for space, and a traditional engine-mounted fan doesn't work for this car. Instead, they use an electric fan mounted directly to the radiator to help cool down the coolant. The motors for these fans can go out over time, and the fan will need to be replaced. This should take about 15 minutes to do, and does not take any special tools.

Things You'll Need

  • 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set
  • Pop the hood. Locate the electrical harness connecting the radiator fan at the front of the engine to the vehicle's harness. Disconnect the two pieces using your hands.

  • Unbolt the radiator fan from the fan shroud using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket.

  • Tile the top of the radiator fan towards the engine. Then lift it up and out of the engine compartment, being careful not to damage either the fan or the engine.
