Where Is the Flasher Located in the 97 S10?

When the flashers stopped working on my 1997 Chevy S10 pickup, I thought it would be an easy fix to replace the relay. I opened the instrument panel fuse block on the driver-side end of the dashboard, but the flasher wasn't there. After doing some investigation, I found the flashers -- there are two: one for the turn signals and one for the hazard flashers -- just to the left of the cigarette lighter in a power distribution box behind the lower dashboard panel. Once I knew where to find it, it wasn't hard to replace.

Things You'll Need

  • Nut driver set
  • Remove the cigarette lighter and ashtray. Remove the screws from the upper and lower edges of the lower dashboard panel to the right of the steering wheel, using a nut driver. Remove the screw in the back of the ashtray well. Remove the panel.

  • Find the two flashers in the power distribution panel. The turn signal flasher is on the left; the hazard flasher is on the right. Pull out the flasher you want to replace. Align the prongs on the new flasher and push it into the panel.

  • Install the lower dashboard panel. Make sure the upper edge of the panel engages with the upper dashboard panel so the panel is flush. Install the screws. Install the ashtray and cigarette lighter.
