The window regulator is responsible for the mechanical action of moving your window up and down in your door. If the regulator binds, comes loose or breaks, chances are your window will be stuck in one position or another. In the case of a broken regulator, the window will slide down into the door, leaving you unable to shield the interior from the elements. When faced with this issue on your Camaro, it is best to have it replace a bad regulator immediately.
Use a socket set to remove the fasteners from the door panel. On most Camaro model years, the fasteners are located around the armrest and door pull.
Slip the trim pin removal tool between the door panel and the door at the trailing bottom corner, and pull the trim pin out of its mount in the door. Lift the panel away far enough to locate and unseat the other trim pins. Use a putty knife for this if a trim pin removal tool is not handy; but it is easy to damage the door panel and yourself with the knife, so be careful.
Pull the door panel away farther so you can reach in and disconnect the plug from the back of the window and lock switches. Once you unplug them, move the door panel out of the way.
Use a flashlight to illuminate the interior of the door so you can reach in and carefully move the window to its fully upright position.
Slide a glass wedge between the window glass and the window wipes to prevent the window from sliding back down while you are working. If you do not have glass wedges, you can use a few wooden shims or a pair of low-profile door stops. Just do not use anything metal; that could shatter the glass.
Use the socket set to unbolt the window regulator and remove it from the door. Install the new one in reverse order.
Remove the wedges from the top of the door, and bring the door panel back over.
Plug the window switch back in, and test the window operation to make sure it moves up and down smoothly.
Place the door panel over the trim pin mounts. Gently but forcefully pound the trim pins back into their mounts, using the side of your fist as a hammer. Reinstall the fasteners you removed in Step 1.
