The heater blower in a Honda works in conjunction with the heater core to supply a steady stream of hot air to the floor, dash and defroster vents in the passenger cabin. Warm engine coolant is routed from the engine through rubber heater hoses to the heater core. The heater fan draw air in from outside the vehicle and blow it across the heater core. The warm air is the pushed through ducts and directed by gates to either the floor, dash or defroster.
The heater blower motor on a Honda is located inside the passenger compartment. To locate the blower motor assembly, look underneath the dash on the passenger side. The blower motor assembly will be bolted to the firewall behind the glove box.
Begin by disconnecting the ground cable from negative battery terminal. If the vehicle is equipped with air conditioning, the refrigerant must be evacuated by an automotive air conditioning specialist. Remove the glove box and the lower frame that secures it to the dash. On models without air conditioning, remove the blower duct, which is a long white plastic piece that runs between the heater case and the blower motor assembly. On air conditioned models, remove the evaporator assembly. Label and disconnect the wires on the front side of the case that attach to the blower motor. Remove the screws that connect the blower motor to the firewall, and remove the assembly from the vehicle. Remove the screws from the lower portion of the blower motor case and remove the motor. A plastic fan will be secured to the motor with a nut. Remove the fan; you will be reusing it during re-installation.
