How to Inspect and Repair an Automobile Front End Assembly

Everyone's car will break down at one time or another. Some cars will vibrate, others will make banging sounds. This could indicate a problem with the front end assembly. It is difficult to know what is going on with the front end of the car. Here are some steps on how to inspect and repair an automobile front end assembly.

  • Place the vehicle securely on a hoist or prop it up with a jack. Make sure you secure the car so that it does not roll backwards or falls off of the hoist or jack. Make sure the vehicle is at least 1 inch off of the ground.

  • Check the tires. Look at the tread on the tires. Rotate the front tires slowly. If the tread is bad on the inside and outside parts of the tire, the chamber setting or the toe setting may be what is causing the front end problem.

  • Shake the tire gently. Be extremely careful that you do not shake it too hard or the vehicle may fall off of the jack. If it has a lot of play in the tire when you shake it or if it rattles, then the tire rods may be causing the front end problem.

  • Note any loose tugs in the suspension component. Loose tugs could also cause your vehicle to make noise from the front end assembly.

  • Review the parts for proper lubrication and installation. A bad installation or lack of lubrication can cause many problems with a front end assembly on any vehicle.
