A broken wheel stud is dangerous. One stud leads to pressure on the others and if they all snap, your wheel flies off. If you need to replace the wheel stud in a Kia Spectra, you can do it yourself as long as you have the right tools, a good memory for the location of the parts you took off and some brute strength.
Find a replacement stud. Sometimes you don't need the size but just the make and model of the vehicle. It's always best to take the stud along if you're unsure.
Locate the jack under the trunk liner of the vehicle. You'll need to jack up the vehicle when you change your wheel stud in the Kia Spectra. As you jack, block the tire that's diagonal to the one that has the broken stud.
Remove the tire. Take off the caliper and lay it aside. Be careful that you don't damage the brake line. Take off the rotor. If the broken stud is in the rear, move the cable for the emergency brakes out of the carrier with vise-grips before you disassemble the other parts. If the rear are drum brakes, take off the drum.
Look for an opening behind the hub. Rotate the hub if you need to line the stud to it. You may need to notch the dust shield. This gives enough room in back to remove the stud and put the new one in the location.
Smack the head of the stud with a mallet to drive the stud out the back. Replace the old stud with the new. Get the stud in as far as you can by hand.
Attach wheel bolts to the stud and tighten them down. Watch the back as you tighten and notice how it seats the stud. Stop when you see the stud's head seated against the back of the hub.
Take off the bolts and replace the parts that you removed. Tighten everything down to complete the job.
