Professional alarm installers love working on a Honda CR-V because the car is pre-wired for the alarm. This makes the Honda CR-V a great car for you to install the alarm yourself and save money. Installing an alarm in the Honda CR-V still requires a basic understanding of car electronics and wire identification. Installation requires 30 minutes if you use the cars horn, or an hour if you install a siren.
Read the manufacturer's installation manual and identify all of the parts and connections. Open the hood and remove the positive battery cable from the terminal. Mount the siren in an open area of the engine bay, if desired. Face the siren towards the engine and run the wires through the firewall in front of the steering wheel.
Slide the driver side seat back as far as it will go and remove the fuse box panel and lower dash panel on the driver's side. Locate the primary wire bundle under the dash and attach the alarm control console to it with zip ties. Locate the white power wire in the fuse box and plug the connector into it.
Mount the shock sensor under the dash, just to the side of the stereo. Run the wires back to the control module. Plug the power lock module into the power lock relay above the fuse box.
Snap out one of the dash blanks on the left side of the dash and drill a small hole in it for the LED. Snap the LED into place and connect the wire to the control module.
Locate the starter wire in the ignition wire bundle and connect the start disable relay. Wire the relay, power, lock module and horn relay into the control module.
Reconnect the positive battery cable on the Honda CR-V and test the alarm. Make adjustments to the alarm sensitivity level as needed.
