Every state has different laws regarding mobile video players; be sure to check the local laws before installing a video system.

Things You'll Need

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Electrical tape
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Pencil
  • Razor blade
  • Drill
  • Thread lock
  • Wire crimps
  • Disconnect the battery of the vehicle. This installation involves the electrical system so use precaution.

  • Locate the area where the installation will take place. Does the area have a power supply? Does the area provide enough clearance for the installation? A good area to choose is the same place where a dome light is installed.

  • Remove the dome light. Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the light covers and expose the screws. Remove the screws that hold the dome to the ceiling. Use the screwdriver to gently pry the light away from the ceiling.

  • Disconnect the wires that are connected to the dome light. Wrap each wire with electrical tape to keep it safe from the other wires.

  • Place the mounting bracket against the headliner of the vehicle so that the wires from the light hang through the center of the bracket. Use a pencil to outline the mounting plate.

  • Use a razor blade and cut the outline of the bracket out of the ceiling. Cut out both the headliner and the foam underneath. This will expose the ceiling support frame.

  • Place the mounting bracket against the ceiling support and use the drill to drill out the holes in the ceiling support that is also in the mounting bracket. Check behind the support before drilling to make sure there are no obstacles.

  • Use the supplied hardware and secure the monitor mount to the ceiling support. Use a Phillips screwdriver to thread screws into the mount and the support rail. It is a good idea to use a thread lock on the screws to prevent them from loosening.

  • Pull the electrical connections back through the mount and allow them to hang into the cab of the vehicle. Use the wire crimps and electrical tape to make all the electrical connections necessary. Different monitors will have a variety of wiring connections so follow the manufacturer's instructions so making the electrical connections.

  • Fasten the monitor to the ceiling mount with the supplied hardware. Check to make sure the monitor is secure and that the wiring is attached appropriately.

  • Connect the battery of the vehicle and test the function of the video monitor.
