How to Troubleshoot a Jensen VM9312

Jensen's VM9312 XM satellite radio- and navigation-ready multimedia receiver includes a 7-inch touch flip-up screen and a disc player that can handle DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3 and WMA formats. The in-car device includes a comprehensive error message reporting system. Problems with the multimedia receiver can include errors, power or playback issues or problems with the flip-up monitor screen.

Things You'll Need

  • Fresh batteries
  • Look at the screen for an error message. Unlike many in-car receivers, the error messages on the Jensen VM9312 are in clear English. "No Disc" can mean that the disc is dirty, upside down or not there. Replace it. "Bad Disc" can indicate the disc is dirty. Clean it with a soft cloth, and discard it if it's obviously scratched and still will not play.

  • Press the "Reset" button if the Jensen won't power up or freezes. The button is in the bottom right corner of the front panel.

  • Change the remote control's batteries if the remote control won't work. Open the battery cover, remove the old batteries and add new ones.

  • Turn on the "TFT Auto Open" option if the screen doesn't automatically open when you insert a disc. Check for obstructions if the monitor stops in the wrong position. Clear the obstruction and press the "Open" button to restart the screen's movement.

  • Stop the vehicle in a safe place and place the vehicle in "Park" if no images appear on the screen. This is a safety feature to stop distracted driving.

  • Check that your MP3 player or iPod is turned on if you select the auxiliary source. The device must be plugged into the Jensen VM9312 and turned on for audio to be output.
