Japanese cars, including those made by Toyota, Honda and Nissan, both in the US and in Japan, are supplied with radios. The default installation in new cars often includes a CD (Compact Disc) player as well. As an upgrade, it is possible to request a DVD (Digital Video Disc) player. The DVD player allows you and your passengers to watch videos. Safety measures are included to stop driver distraction, and some installations include rear-seat screens.
Turn the Japanese car's ignition switch to the "ACC" (Accessory) or "ON" position and press the "PWR" switch on the radio unit that's located in the center of the dashboard.
Insert a DVD disc into the slot in the unit. Use only 4.7-inch round discs with no self-adhesive, paper labels that can peel off inside the slot. Don't force the disk. Some Japanese car DVD players have their slots behind the display screen. Look for an "Open/Tilt" button, which will drop the display, exposing the slot.
Press "Play" to start playing the DVD. The screen will flip back and the DVD will play on both the front and rear-seat screens, with both audio and video if the car's gear shift is the "P" (Park) position. Only audio will play in the front, while both video and audio will play on any rear-seat screens, if the Japanese car's stick is in a position other than "P."
Press "Stop" to stop the disc, and "Open/Tilt" to expose the slot. Press "Eject" to eject the disc.
